Fusion Plus has its own formula for wheels and calipers

The short answer. XPEL Fusion Plus is XPEL's professional-install ceramic coating line. It is applied only by XPEL-certified installers, and the warranty is registered with XPEL. There are separate Fusion Plus formulas for paint and PPF, wheels and calipers, glass, plastic trim, and more. Paint coating warranties run one, four, or eight years depending on the tier. Our ceramic packages start at $800 as posted on our service page, and the price climbs with paint correction and the number of surfaces coated.

XPEL is best known for paint protection film, so plenty of Boca Raton drivers have never heard that XPEL makes a coating at all. If you already have XPEL film or are getting a quote for it, this is the guide to whether Fusion Plus belongs on the rest of the car. Our ceramic coating page shows the packages we install.

What XPEL Fusion Plus actually is

Fusion Plus is a liquid ceramic coating that goes on wet, bonds to the surface, and cures into a thin, slick, hydrophobic layer. XPEL describes it as a single application process that must be installed by a professional. It is not a DIY product, and you will not find it on a parts store shelf.

One naming trap to clear up right away. XPEL Fusion Plus is a ceramic coating. XPEL Ultimate Fusion is a paint protection film with a hydrophobic topcoat built in. Similar names, completely different products. One is a liquid. The other is a urethane film that stops rock chips.

How ceramic coating chemistry works, in one paragraph

Most professional ceramic coatings are built on silica (SiO2) chemistry. The liquid bonds to the clear coat, or to a film's topcoat, and cures into a hard, very thin, low-energy surface. Low surface energy is why water beads tightly and rolls off, carrying dirt with it. Pro-grade coatings typically produce water contact angles above 100 degrees, which is the technical way of saying "tight, round beads." And about the "9H" you see on coating labels: that is the pencil hardness test, not the Mohs mineral scale. A 9H coating is not as hard as sapphire, and it is not scratch-proof.

The Fusion Plus formulas and what each protects

XPEL publishes separate warranty terms for each Fusion Plus formula. These are the automotive ones and their XPEL warranty periods:

XPEL also makes upholstery, marine, and aircraft versions. At our shop, these formulas are bundled into three packages:

  • Fusion Plus Premium: eight years. XPEL's longest-rated paint coating.
  • Fusion Plus Paint & PPF: four years, made for painted panels and paint protection film.
  • Fusion Plus Classic: four years.
  • Fusion Plus Satin: four years, for matte and satin finishes.
  • Fusion Plus Lite: one year. The entry point.
  • Fusion Plus Wheel & Caliper: three years. Built for brake dust and heat.
  • Fusion Plus Glass: two years.
  • Fusion Plus Plastic & Trim: one year, for black exterior plastics that fade in Boca sun.
  • XPEL Lite: a one-year coating over paint and glass with a single-stage paint enhancement.
  • XPEL Fusion Plus: a four-year ceramic over paint and PPF, with single-stage paint correction included. The sweet spot for most cars.
  • Fusion Plus Premium: eight-year protection over paint, glass, and wheel faces, with paint enhancement and a maintenance wash.

What Fusion Plus costs in Boca Raton

Our ceramic packages start at $800 as posted on our service page. Where your quote lands above that depends on vehicle size, paint condition, and which surfaces you coat. Exotics and paint that needs heavy correction cost the most.

For a broader look at ceramic pricing, see our guide to how much ceramic coating costs.

  • Paint only, light prep: from $800.
  • Adding wheels, trim, and glass: more surfaces means more product and labor.
  • Paint correction before coating: the biggest variable, driven by the condition of your paint.
  • Fusion Plus over existing PPF: film needs far less prep than bare paint, which keeps the cost down.

How Fusion Plus compares to the ceramics customers usually ask about

Gyeon, Gtechniq, CarPro CQuartz, and Ceramic Pro all make respected coatings. Durability claims vary by product version and by how a car is maintained, so we compare structure rather than marketing numbers:

The real Fusion Plus advantage is not the chemistry. It is that the coating is made by the same company as your film. XPEL's film warranty excludes problems caused by non-XPEL ceramic coatings, so putting a different brand of coating over XPEL film adds a complication you do not need.

  • Fusion Plus vs Gyeon MOHS. Both bead hard and are easy to maintain. Gyeon sells consumer versions alongside its pro line. Fusion Plus is installer-only, with an XPEL-registered warranty.
  • Fusion Plus vs Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light. Gtechniq runs its own approved installer network. The main difference is the warranty structure and who backs it.
  • Fusion Plus vs CQuartz UK 3.0. CQuartz UK 3.0 is widely available to enthusiasts for home application. Fusion Plus trades DIY access for a manufacturer warranty and installer inspections.
  • Fusion Plus vs Ceramic Pro. Ceramic Pro is also an installer-network brand with tiered packages. Ignore the "9H" on any label. Compare the warranty terms, the inspection requirements, and the installer.

Where Fusion Plus wins in South Florida specifically

  • A1A salt aerosol. Salt residue rinses off a coated surface instead of clinging. That matters if you park near the beach in Highland Beach or Deerfield.
  • Love bug season. Residue releases more easily from a slick surface, and the coating takes the first chemical hit. You still need to wash bugs off fast.
  • Boca summer UV. Summer UV here sits in the EPA's very high to extreme range for months. A cured coating outlasts any wax by years under that load.
  • Pollen and west-side dust. Spring pollen and the dust on the Everglades side of West Boca rinse off a coated car far more easily.

Where Fusion Plus does not solve the problem

Rock chips

Ceramic does nothing for impacts from I-95 gravel. That is paint protection film's job.

Deep scratches

Self-healing is a film trait. A coating will not fill or heal a scratch.

Existing swirls

A coating locks in whatever is underneath. That is why correction comes first.

Bird droppings left too long

A coating slows etching. It does not stop it. XPEL's coating warranty also excludes water spots from minerals left to dry.

What professional install actually looks like at an XPEL-certified shop

Most coatings at our shop are completed in one day. Paint correction can add time.

  • Wash and iron decontamination to dissolve embedded brake dust and fallout.
  • Clay treatment to pull bonded contamination off the paint.
  • Paint correction, single-stage or more, depending on the paint.
  • Panel wipe to remove polishing oils so the coating bonds.
  • Coating application in a controlled indoor bay.
  • Cure and inspection. XPEL says Fusion Plus usually cures in about three to four hours before the car is ready for the road.
  • Warranty registration and aftercare. We register the warranty to your VIN before you leave.

Fusion Plus warranty: what is covered and what is not

Our ceramic coating maintenance guide covers the weekly routine that keeps the coating, and the warranty, healthy.

  • Length: one, four, or eight years on paint, depending on the formula, with separate terms for wheels, glass, and trim.
  • Registration: the warranty is with XPEL, starting from the date of installation.
  • Annual inspection: XPEL requires a yearly inspection by an XPEL-certified installer, within 30 days of the installation anniversary, for the length of the warranty. Missing it can void the warranty, and the inspection visit is billed to the owner.
  • Not covered: stains and scratches, damage from automatic car washes or improper wash tools, harsh cleansers and solvents, water spots, and collision or impact damage.

XPEL Fusion Plus plus XPEL PPF: the case for stacking both

Film takes the impacts. Coating handles the chemistry. A common Boca setup is XPEL film on the front clip and rockers, with Fusion Plus on the doors, upper quarters, roof, wheels, and glass. Fusion Plus can also go over the film itself, which adds gloss and beading to the filmed panels.

If your film is Ultimate Fusion, those panels already have a hydrophobic topcoat, so coating them again is optional. The film warranty and the coating warranty run separately, each on its own terms. Both require annual inspections, so one visit to the same shop handles both.

When Fusion Plus is not the right pick

Three-year lease

A multi-year coating on a car you hand back in three years rarely pays for itself. XPEL Lite or a good booster spray routine is enough.

The rinse-and-forget beach car

If you will never make an annual inspection, a multi-year warranty you cannot keep is wasted money.

You already have a coating brand and installer you trust

Loyalty to a good installer is a fine reason to stay put. Fusion Plus is worth a quote alongside it, not a reason to switch for its own sake.

Our take

Our take: for a Boca driver with XPEL film already on the front clip, Fusion Plus on the rest of the paint, wheels, and trim is the logical add-on. Everything is warrantied through one manufacturer, inspected by one installer, and maintained with one routine. For a Boca driver starting from zero, Fusion Plus is competitive with the coatings it is usually quoted against and worth pricing side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Is XPEL Fusion Plus better than Gyeon?

Both are respected professional coatings. Fusion Plus makes the most sense if you have, or plan to get, XPEL film, because one manufacturer backs both and XPEL's film warranty excludes non-XPEL coatings.

Can I install Fusion Plus myself?

No. XPEL sells Fusion Plus only through certified installers, and the warranty depends on professional installation.

Does Fusion Plus need to be reapplied every year?

No. It lasts for its warranty term with proper care. What is required every year is an inspection at your XPEL-certified installer.

Will Fusion Plus fill in existing scratches?

No. Scratches and swirls should be corrected before coating. A coating adds gloss but does not hide defects.

Can Fusion Plus go on top of PPF?

Yes. XPEL makes Fusion Plus Paint & PPF for painted panels and film, and Fusion Plus Satin for matte and satin finishes.

How long does the install take?

Most coatings at our shop are done in one day. Heavier paint correction adds time. XPEL says the coating usually cures in about three to four hours before the car is ready for the road.

Is Fusion Plus safe on matte paint?

Yes, with the right formula. Fusion Plus Satin is made for matte and satin finishes and protects them without adding gloss.

Does Fusion Plus protect against love bugs?

It helps. Residue releases more easily and the coating takes the first hit. You still need to wash bugs off within a day or so. Our love bug season guide has the details.

How does the annual inspection work?

Once a year, within 30 days of your installation anniversary, the car comes back to the installer for a wash, decontamination, and inspection. Keep proof of each visit in case you ever need to make a warranty claim.

Can I put Fusion Plus on glass?

Yes. Fusion Plus Glass is a dedicated formula with a two-year XPEL warranty. Glass coating is included in our Lite and Premium packages.

About the prices in this guide

Every figure in this guide is a ballpark for planning, not a quote. Prices for our own work start where they start and move with the vehicle, its paint or glass condition, and how much coverage you choose. Costs quoted for third-party work such as glass replacement or ADAS recalibration are general market ranges gathered for context, and those shops set their own prices, not us.
