Velvet wrap is the most touchable finish in the business — a fabric-like flocked film that makes a car look upholstered. It turns heads harder than chrome in person. Here are the five questions every velvet-curious customer asks us in the shop.
1. Does it actually feel like velvet?
Yes — the surface is micro-flocked fibers, so it feels like brushed suede. That texture is the appeal and the responsibility: it's a finish you maintain, not one you forget.
2. How long does it last?
Less than standard vinyl: figure 2–4 years in Florida conditions with garage keeping. UV and weather age the fibers faster than a smooth film — velvet is a statement piece, not a decade plan.
3. How do you wash it?
Gently and by hand. No pressure washers up close, no automatic tunnels — ever — no wax or dressings (they mat the fibers). Soft brush, mild soap, low-pressure rinse, brush the nap back as it dries. Ten extra minutes per wash is the price of fabric.
4. What does it cost?
Specialty-film territory: above standard color-change wraps, below chrome. The film itself is pricier and installation is slower because flocked film handles differently on curves. Accent programs (roof, hood, spoiler) are a popular way to get the texture without full-car commitment — and they're what we suggest first.
5. Will it hurt my paint?
Quality velvet film on healthy factory paint removes cleanly like any premium cast vinyl — the paint underneath stays preserved and resale-ready. The usual wrap rules apply: good film, professional install, sane removal timeline.
