Water spotting is one of the most irritating contaminants that prevent your ride from looking its best. Whether you live in a rainy climate where the heavens seem to open almost immediately after you’ve finished washing and waxing, or in a hot, oceanside region where humidity and spray cause spotting year-round, it’s not something you want spoiling your gleaming paintwork.
So what’s the solution? Sure, you could employ someone to regularly wash and polish your ride. Alternatively, you could entrust your wheels to a third-party car wash each week—if you dare.
Or—perhaps there’s another way…
Water spotting is caused by two reasons. The first is when rain or other water mixed with a contaminant comes into contact with the vehicle’s paintwork. While the majority of the water will eventually run away, a little is left—along with the contaminant. A chemical reaction occurs between this and the paint, leaving that tell-tale spotting that ruins the car’s gleaming good looks.
It can also happen when matter is flicked up from the road surface, such as salt, and sits on the car. The same process then occurs. How bad the spotting is will depend on the makeup and quantity of the contaminant.
Getting rid of water spotting involves tedious washing, shampooing, and rinsing to remove it. You then need to wax and polish to bring the paintwork back to its former glory. And then what happens? It rains or more matter flicks up from the road surface and the whole process begins again. Yawn…
If this sounds all-too-familiar, then it’s time to prevent the cycle. This can be done by applying a paint protection product to your vehicle’s paintwork, of which there are two choices:
Paint protection film, or PPF, is a tough, thin, flexible coating that’s applied to all or some panels of the vehicle. Certain types have what are called “hydrophobic” properties. This means that when liquid comes into contact with it, it beads and rolls away. As it does so, it takes any contaminants with it. Thus, water spotting becomes—if not a thing of the past, dramatically reduced.
Ceramic coating also has hydrophobic properties—albeit far more powerful. The product is added to the entire exterior of a car where it bonds with the surface and dries, providing a rock-hard, perfectly clear coating. Not only does it virtually stop paint spotting in its tracks, but it also makes the paintwork gleam in a manner that’ll give you a warm, fuzzy feeling in the pit of your belly.
Sure, both PPF and ceramic coating don’t remove the need to wash your vehicle ever again, But both will reduce the need to do so and, thankfully, prevent the majority of unwanted water spotting very effectively.
In South Florida, there’s no better installer of both PPF and ceramic coating the Auto SuperShield. If you’re looking for an incredible shine, color enhancement, paint protection, AND a reduction of the water spotting you so hate, then there’s no better choice than ceramic coating.
